SABC Member Meeting 2005
Here is a sample of the items enjoyed by
about 100 members and spouses at our March 2005, meting.
Our meeting is held in conjunction with the best Arms Show in the country,
the "Baltimore Show" sponsored by the Maryland Arms Collectors. SABC
members enjoy special hotel rates, and a good meal at our Saturday night meeting.
We invite you to join us for our next meeting on March 18, 2006. Watch for details
in your Journal mailings.

The earliest form of bayonet was a "plug bayonet" essentially a knife with a handle the right size to stick in the muzzle of a musket. Some were very plain, but others were magnificent works of art. Here are two groups of plug bayonets from our members, and owner sharing a few thoughts about two of them during the "show and tell" presentations.

In addition to really old bayonets, a member brought an interesting exhibit of the latest USMC OK3CS bayonet and how the Marines are training warriors to use them.
And Remington bayonets- we had Remington bayonets of all types.....

And SPRINGFIELD ARMORY? Wow! One of just about everything, inlcuding some really rare ones!
.
Some shots of the dinner crowd, with just a few of the "show and tell" tables that circled the walls.
.
A selection of socket bayonets, and a sword bayonet with research documents.

The officers and directors looking smart and efficient....

One of the benefits of SABC membership is the opportunity to study rare examples from members' collections. Here are three rare bayonets made by Thomas Wylie circa 1770-1790. Note the difference in the lengths of the blades and sockets, shape of the shank, and other features.
